Volunteers Needed for Occoquan Artisan Markets

This spring brings another shift to the Occoquan Spring Arts & Crafts Show.

The Town is excited to introduce the Occoquan Artisan Markets, a redesigned and abridged version of the larger craft show, coming to River Mill Park this spring and summer. On May 8/9, June 5/6 and July 10/11, the park will be filled with offerings from juried artisans and crafters.

And with this change in schedule brings a need for volunteers! This is a great way to serve your community, meet new friends, or get high school volunteer hours. Bonus - volunteers get free access to the market all weekend!

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

  • Set Up: Friday May 7, 6-10pm; Saturday May 8, 6:30-9:30am

  • Admissions: May 8 & 9, 9:30am-5pm

  • Vendor Assistance: May 8 & 9, 10am-5pm

  • Information Booth: May 8 & 9, 10am-5pm

Volunteer shifts will typically last three to four hours, so bring a friend! Enjoy sunshine, and music in the park while you help your favorite craft show artisans and get to know some new ones.

ARTISAN MARKET VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS

SET UP/BREAK DOWN

Artisans will be off loading in front of River Mill Park on Friday evening and Saturday morning and may need additional help moving their hand trucks and wagons into the park. Set up may include helping them erect tents and tables. Event Staff will need help setting up and breaking down the park with tables, tents, and chairs.

ADMISSION TABLE

Volunteers will ensure that each patron over the age of 12 pays the $5.00 entry fee. Patrons will have pre-paid Eventbrite tickets or will be able to pay cash or credit at the door. To expedite admissions, there will be two admissions tables with at least two volunteers each. Experience with handling money or apps on an ipad is welcomed.

VENDOR ASSISTANCE TEAM

Volunteers are also needed to assist vendors during the market. Volunteers will ensure vendor questions are addressed and market rules are being followed. Volunteers may be asked to “booth sit” for breaks and vendors very much appreciate being cared for by our volunteers in this way. Volunteers will watch the booth to prevent theft and inform customers the vendor will return shortly, but will not conduct transactions on behalf of the vendor.

INFORMATION BOOTH

Love people and love our Town? Become an Occoquan Ambassador! Help us staff an information booth on site to help answer questions for market patrons and share the many fun things happening in town all season long. Booth volunteers sell VIP totes and run the raffle giveaways at 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm too!

MARKET INFORMATION

General admission is $5.00 for patrons and includes entry into daily drawings. A VIP package, valued at over $50, is available for $35 and includes general admission for two people, an exclusive canvas Occoquan market tote, a dedicated parking space, entry into the raffle drawing and two drink tickets. Patrons may visit Eventbrite to purchase entry tickets or VIP packages. Patrons will also be able to pay cash or credit at the door.

With the markets taking place in River Mill Park, businesses in Occoquan will remain open to the general public and street parking remains free. In addition, for those who wish to park off site and ride into town, there will be a FREE shuttle that will circle from the VDOT lot at Route 123 and Old Bridge Road to River Mill Park both days of each market. For those that purchase the VIP package, a dedicated parking space will be provided near the event.

For more information visit the Artisan Market website or contact Julie Little, Events and Community Development Director, at jlittle@occoquanva.gov. A Volunteer Q&A will also be held the week of May 3rd.
